Northern Territory pushes for China Southern services
Australia’s Northern Territory (NT) Government has opened talks with China Southern Airlines as it looks to tempt the carrier into Darwin services.
China is the fastest growing international visitor market for Australia, up 26% from last financial year, and a primary target market for the NT, which sees the lack of direct flights as a serious inhibitor to growth. China Southern recently announced the opening of a new route between Guangzhou and Perth, prompting NT Tourism Minister Malarndirri McCarthy to present Darwin as another destination and product the airline needs to promote and sustain services to Western Australia.
“We are keen to show more Chinese experience seekers the world-class nature based and cultural tourism experiences which are synonymous with the Northern Territory,” said Ms McCarthy.?”The Territory Government is investing significantly in developing a regional international aviation hub at Darwin which is strategically located for services between most major capitals in Asia and all Australian cities,” she added.
