Thousands of delegates in London and across the world will join forces to launch WTM (World Travel Market) World Responsible Tourism Day 2010, held in association with the UNWTO. The big event, which takes place on 10 November, is an opportunity to show consumers, governments, companies and organisations just what can be done to make a positive contribution towards responsible tourism. A jam-packed schedule of speeches, debates, interviews, presentations and workshops featuring some of the industry’s most respected private and public sector leaders and global environmental experts is planned. Keynote debates include Destinations and Climate Change when Government Ministers of countries facing possible serious social and economic challenges will examine what can be done to address the problems. Other responsible tourism topics during the week (8 – 11 November) include bio-diversity, management of sacred sites and sustainable excursions. The WTM World Responsible Tourism Day 2010 launch is essential to highlight issues and future actions that can be taken to stop terrible catastrophes potentially wiping out hundreds of wildlife species, such as the recent disastrous US oil spill and its impact, which threatens to destroy fisheries and wildlife In the Gulf Coast. “While most of us are powerless to stop such terrible catastrophes potentially wiping out hundreds of wildlife species, it illustrates more vividly than any words the importance of everyone working in travel and tourism making a contribution to responsible tourism where ever they are in the world,” explained World Travel Market Chairman Fiona Jeffery.
