Ground staff at London City Airport have threatened to strike in a row over pay and conditions, trade union GMB has confirmed. The union is considering a ballot after a poll of its members found that 97 percent would vote to strike. Francesca Ecsery, global sales director of Cheapflights, has said it is a ‘shame’ that staff feel the need to take industrial action and hoped GMB would not initiate a ballot.”The imminent threat of strike at London City Airport undeniably presents potential issues for travel this spring,” said Ecsery. “It is a shame airport ground staff cannot find alternative methods to demonstrate their demands. Strike action at this airport will affect both leisure and business travel, as the airport is a gateway for London’s financial district to access the rest of the world.” However, she suggested that the airport could continue to function with fewer staff, as shown by the British Airways strikes.
