The travel industry could be facing a new wave of flight cancellations if a new ash cloud spreads across Europe. The Grimsvotn volcano in Iceland erupted Saturday evening, causing the country’s international airport to close and airspace to be shut. It is now thought that the ash cloud could reach Scotland by Tuesday, then hitting the rest of the UK at the end of the week. However, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has said that flight cancellations may not be as severe as last year’s six-day airspace closure. It will monitor the concentration of ash and dust (if or when it arrives) to determine the best precaution. If several flights are cancelled it will ruin holiday plans for Brits getting away during the May bank holiday and school half term.
