Eurostar has announced new targets in emission reduction in the next phase of its Tread Lightly campaign. The train operator has said it will cut emissions by 25% across its business by 2015, on top of its 35% reduction per traveller journey by 2012. The new targets have been announced as the company continues to push rail travel as a more sustainable option that flights. It hopes to be carrying five million connecting passengers by 2015. “We are proud of all we have achieved through Tread Lightly and have learned a tremendous amount since we launched four years ago,” said Nicolas Petrovic, chief executive of Eurostar. “Listening to feedback from our customers and stakeholders has convinced us that we can go further and take Tread Lightly to the next level.” In addition, Eurostar is to measure its entire carbon footprint, including suppliers, to understand where emissions come from.
