SkyTeam has further expanded in China, having accepted Xiamen Airlines into the alliance. China’s sixth largest airline, Fujian province-based Xiamen Airlines will now begin the joining process and is expected to be added as a full SkyTeam member by the end of 2012.
Xiamen Airlines will become the third mainland Chinese airline in the SkyTeam alliance, joining China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines.
“SkyTeam has long recognised the region’s huge economic potential, resulting in our number one position in Greater China. Xiamen Airlines’ membership in SkyTeam will strengthen our offer in the southeastern part of China and the cross-strait markets,” said SkyTeam’s Managing Director, Michael Wisbrun.
“Membership in SkyTeam will enable us to expand our intercontinental network offering, in cooperation with our partners in the alliance,” said Xiamen Airlines’ President, Che Shanglun.
Other members of Skyteam include Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, Korean Air, Vietnam Airlines, and China Airlines.
