Scoot's B777s will feature 370 economy class seats

Scoot, Singapore Airlines’ new long-haul low-cost carrier, will take to the skies for the first time tonight.

The airline’s first Boeing 777-200 aircraft, which has been named ‘Goin Scootin’ will depart Singapore Changi Airport’s Terminal 2 at 2325 on Monday 4 June, and arrive at Sydney International Airport at 0920 the following day. The flight is expected to carry approximately 400 passengers.

“Tonight marks a significant milestone in Singapore’s aviation history. A new airline, offering fantastic value airfares, empowerment to choose only the extras you want and an expanding range of destinations, will take to the skies,” said Campbell Wilson, Scoot’s CEO. “It’s been a great journey bringing this from spreadsheet to fully-functioning airline in just 12 months, and so many, many people have contributed. All of us in the Scoot team are passionate about what this airline stands for and we’re here to change the way people travel long distance.”

Following the launch of Scoot’s daily Sydney services, the airline will add daily flights to the Gold Coast on 12 June. These will be followed by daily services to Bangkok, which start on 5 July, and four weekly flights to Tianjin in late August.

Speaking to Travel Daily last month, Wilson revealed that Scoot will add one or two more B777 aircraft each year to 2015. All aircraft will come equipped with 402 seats in two classes – 370 in economy class and 32 in ScootBiz, which will be similar to a premium economy product. While the aircraft will not have seatback monitors, Scoot will offer iPads to passengers.
