Delta Air Lines will start offering in-flight Wi-Fi on more than 150 of its long-haul international aircraft from early next year.

The roll-out, which includes Delta’s Airbus A330, Boeing 777, B767, B747 and international B757 aircraft, expands on a scheme already offering in-flight Wi-Fi on 550 of its domestic aircraft.

Provided by Gogo, the international service will use high-bandwidth satellites to provide global internet coverage. When completed in 2015, Delta will operate approximately 1,000 Wi-Fi-equipped aircraft in its global fleet.

“Delta’s advancements in technology have been a key component to our improvements in the customer travel experience,” said Tim Mapes, Delta’s Senior Vice President of Marketing. “With our expansion of international Wi-Fi options across our fleet, Delta customers will be able to stay connected throughout their journey.”

The expansion of in-flight Wi-Fi to Delta’s long-haul fleet is the latest in the airline’s US$3 billion investment in its global products, services and airport facilities. In addition to the Wi-Fi roll-out, Delta has improved its premium cabin products and in-flight entertainment options, and recently completed the system-wide roll-out of a new premium economy cabin in all two-class aircraft.
