By Sam Ballard, 14 August 2012, Tuesday 9:11 AM
Expedition cruise firm Lindblad Expeditions – National Geographic has announced that its flagship, The National Geographic Explorer, will mark its fifth anniversary in 2013 by sailing five new itineraries.
The new routes have been designed around exploration and connecting guests to “incredible places, cultures and people” – according to a statement – all aboard the 148-passenger exploration vessel.
The new itineraries include a September 38-day ‘Epic South America’ voyage which starts in Trinidad and ends in Buenos Aires; calling at eight countries, including Brazil, Uruguay and French Guiana; and three of the continent’s main rivers, the Amazon, Orinoco and Essequibo.
In July there are shorter expeditions including a 10-day ‘Circumnavigation of Iceland’; a 12-day ‘Along the Viking Trail’, a voyage from Iceland to Greenland; and a17-day ‘Arctic Quest: Greenland and the Canadian High Arctic’. Each cruise is joined by experts in the respective field including Henning Thing, an expert in arctic wildlife.
The first cruise of the series is ‘A circumnavigation of the Baltic Sea’ in May, 2013 which takes in the nine countries which share the Baltic Sea. The cruise includes an opportunity to meet former Poland president Lech Walesa.
