Thomson searches for Eco-apprentice
By Amanda Greenwood, 14 August 2012, Tuesday 2:01 PM
Thomson and First Choice are to send a family away on one if its greenest holidays as part of an Eco-apprentice scheme.
Children under the age of 12 will be asked to submit their ideas to the companies about making holidays greener as part of its Eco-traveller programme in schools to educate children on sustainable tourism.
“In recruiting an Eco-apprentice we are underlining one of our Holidays Forever commitments to engage half a million children in sustainable tourism. We are thrilled to be well on our way to achieving this commitment,” said Jane Ashton, director of group sustainable development at Thomson and First Choice.
The hunt for an Eco-apprentice has come after the companies announced they have donated £3 million to the Travel Foundation through various projects. Its World Care Fund has raised £500,000 in the last year, while four of its hotels in Mexico have become ‘turtle friendly’. Other projects have included farmer workshops with hoteliers in Turkey to forge links and local food events across the globe.
