New Berlin airport ‘on track’ for March opening
By Amanda Greenwood, 17 August 2012, Friday 8:34 AM
Board members at the delayed Berlin Brandenburg Airport have said it is still planning its opening for March 2013.
The airport’s COO Horst Amann is evaluating an opening on 17 March and hit back at media speculation that its opening date had been pushed back further.
Brandenburg’s opening has already been delayed twice, in November 2011 and again in June this year. The most recent delay came after the airport failed tests for its fire safety system.
Status reports on and plans are currently underway with some clarity expected in its next meeting in mid-September.
“I am currently evaluating the feasibility of the opening date with internal and external construction experts. We have only recently started with this work and are not yet in a position to conclude our evaluation,” Amann added.
