As part of a drive to improve its image, the island of Mauritius has called in Check Safety First to improve standards across the country’s hotels.
In the past year European visitors, which represent two thirds of arrivals, have dropped by 9.3% – a huge knock for the country’s US$10 billion economy.
Check Safety First will introduce its risk management system, E-Cristal, testing the food, water, fire safety, room standards and general safety. After its initial assessement the firm will continue to offer support, bringing the standards up to an acceptable regional level. Other countries that are due to be looked at are the Seychelles and the Maldives. “
For decades, Mauritius has been known as a luxury destination with a spectacular setting for honeymooners and holidaymakers looking for a special trip away. However, in an increasingly competitive marketplace, the country needs to work hard to match or exceed the quality of service offered by other destinations, explains Mark Harrington, CEO at Check Safety First.
“Tourists now expect the highest standards in every capacity and health and safety is a key part of this. As part of own global growth strategy, we look forward to working with Mauritius hotels, helping the island market itself as a top luxury destination,” concludes Harrington.
