Carnival Cruise Line has announced that is launching its first ever TV advertising campaign for a UK audience.
The first advert will screen on Sunday 6 January.
Created by the Karmarama ad agency, the short films show British families flicking a switch and being transported from “mundane, everyday activities to the decks, bars and swimming pools of a Carnival cruise ship,” according to a press release.
The campaign is being narrated by comedian Peter Serafinowicz.
Adolfo Perez, managing director of Carnival Cruise Lines UK, says: “Our new ads are unlike anything you’ll see in the travel sector. We looked at what everyone else was doing and knew straight away that we wanted to be different.
“The spots will make you laugh and think about how great it would be to be transported onto one of our floating resorts for the holiday of a lifetime.”
The campaign is being ran as Carnival Cruise Line tries to increase its presence beyond its US base. This year will see Carnival basing two of its ships in Europe for the British market; with the Legend sailing to the Baltics from Dover; and the Sunshine cruising around the Mediterranean.
Sam Walker, creative director from Karmarama, says: “We wanted to do something that helped Carnival stand out from the usual cruise advertising conventions. The “Switch On Fun” message really sums up the Carnival experience. We felt that any ads about a fun cruise company should be fun and entertaining in themselves, tackling possible negative preconceptions of cruising in a funny, hyperbolic way.”
