Flybe franchise Loganair has been chosen to operate the world’s shortest scheduled flight between two Orkney Islands.
The Scottish airline will continue to operate the 47-second flight between Westray and Papa Westray for another three years as well as other services between the Orkney mainland and its islands.
The contract will initially end up 31 March 2016 but could be extended for another year. Three airlines bid to Orkney Islands Council to operate the flights.
“It’s a great privilege to maintain operations on one of the world’s most famous routes, linking two island’s while being a milestone for the many aviation enthusiasts who travel from far and wide to complete the journey,” said Phil Preston, chief operating officer at Loganair.
“We’re extremely proud of the vital services we offer to the island communities of Orkney and look forward to continuing to demonstrate the highest standards when carrying out this life line role,” he added.
