Renowned television presenter Jonathon Dimbleby has backed a new project to regenerate the South West Coast Path.
The broadcaster, who is also a South Devon AONB patron, is one of many who will be walking a stretch of the path from Stoke Fleming to Torcross to raise money for its upkeep.
Work on the path, which is set to cost a total of GBP250,000, started this week which will solve erosion problems and improve access to Land’s End.
The South West Coast Path team, National Trust, Cornwall Council and Land’s End Company have pooled together GBP20,000 for this stage and aim to raise more money through 56 sponsored walks in the Great South West Walk.
Once completed in 10 weeks a second stage will see more stone pitching to complete the path to Land’s End with another 50 projects planned this year.
Selected hotels and self-catering cottages are offering discounts for those taking part in the walks.
