Jet Airways plans double digit capacity growth by 2014
Jet Airways says it plans to increase capacity up to 12% by next year.
Chief commercial officer, Sudheer Raghavan told reporters that the carrier will add around six narrow-bodied aircraft in addition to 12 B-777 planes by the end of the year.
“We had cut capacity in FY13 (as compared with the previous fiscal). In FY14, we are going to restore capacity to FY12 levels,” he added.
The carrier’s expenditure has dropped by 9% in the quarter due to a reduction in staff and debt costs, despite fuel cost increases.
“Staff costs have come down as many expat pilots have been phased out and replaced by Indian pilots. A total of 1,139 people have left the company on a year-on-year basis, comprising mostly cabin crew and ground staff, which has brought staff costs down,” Jet Airways CFO Ravishankar Gopalakrishnan added.
