Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has formally launched his plans to build an exact replica of the famous White Star Line cruise liner, the RMS Titanic.
Palmer made the announcement onboard the now retired US aircraft carrier, the USS Intrepid, which now acts as the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum in New York Harbour.
Amongst the guests were representatives of China’s CSC Shipyard, the firm commissioned to build the replica vessel; and Markku Kanerva, director of sales at Deltamarin, the company which will be designing the vessel.
The Titanic II is currently due to be launched in 2016 with the ship’s maiden voyage – from London to New York – to depart in May.
