Cruise tourism is a significant new addition to family tourism in the Middle East region. Every cruise ship is a resort-like facility that has full range of luxurious amenities including restaurants and recreational activities for the family.
Building on this product, the Cruise Tourism Department of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently showcased Dubai’s offering at Cruise Shipping Miami (CSM) at the Miami Beach Convention Centre, USA. The Authority was joined by 10 co-participants to meet with industry partners with the aim of sourcing new business for Dubai.
Hamad Bin Mejren, Executive Director of Business Tourism at DTCM said: “The cruise tourism sector in the region is strong and its continued growth remains extremely promising, bringing with it huge economic and development opportunities. Hundreds of jobs will be created in the industry in years to come and Dubai look to lead in ensuring sustained development of this lucrative sector.”
Dubai’s cruise tourism industry is growing rapidly, and the increase in passenger numbers is clearly proportionate to the Emirate’s industry recognition. In 2011, the city hosted 396,554 cruise tourists, a number which increased to 407,825 in 2012.
