As China races ahead with ingenious means of reducing traffic congestion in the cities, the Indian government is resolved not to fall further behind as it tables plans for the northeast India’s first monorail.
According to UNI, the state government plans to setup a monorail in the hill city of Aizawl to ease increasing traffic jams with an investment from the Global Investment Capital. The monorail project will be executed on a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) basis and an agreement to this effect should be signed today. Representatives from Singapore and Dubai based GIC recently met with Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla where they expressed their satisfaction with political stability and security in the region and a strong desire to partner the Mizoram Government. The monorail will take priority in the joint venture, followed by housing and hotel projects.
