The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will launch SMS-based ticketing.
The new service will be launched from 1 July and a dedicated number will soon be announced for the bookings.
Describing the step as environment-friendly, a senior IRCTC official told The Economic Times that, “Mobile-based bookings provides the users ease and convenience of booking tickets from anywhere and anytime. There will be no requirement of a printout because the ticketing message will be considered as valid during the journey.”
As per the requirement, the traveller has to register the mobile number with IRCTC as well as one’s bank, further which the bank provides MMID (Mobile Money Identifier) and OTP (One Time Password) for payment authorisation.
This service will be available to all mobile subscribers and INR3 (US$0.03) will be charged per SMS and payment gateway charges of INR5 for tickets upto INR5,000 and INR10 for more than INR5,000.
