Marriott’s creative director and pioneer in boutique hotels Ian Schrager launched a London hotel under the chain’s new lifestyle brand last week.
The London EDITION is Schrager’s first project in London for 15 years and has opened in the former Berners Hotel.
It aims to offer a “personal, intimate, individualised and unique hotel experience” with Marriott’s operations and scale. Similarly to other EDITION properties, the hotel sets about bringing local culture into its design.
US-born Schrager was the co-owner and co-founder of infamous New York nightclub Studio 54 and is often associated as one of the first hoteliers to develop what is now known as a boutique offering.
He founded Morgans Hotel Group and sold the hotel company in 2005 to create hotel management and development firm Ian Schrager Company.
