Around 6.4 million days of annual leave will not be taken this year, according to new research.
Travel companies may well want to encourage the 1.3 million Brits who will lose out on their remaining annual leave this year to take a holiday, although the time they are allowed to take them is shrinking.
While the extra days are thought to five an extra GBP520 million of ‘free work’ to businesses, they are not able to take as many holidays and days out, according to the Travelsupermarket survey.
Those working in the health and beauty industries are said to have the most difficulty getting time off, as well as those working in retail and finance. The Christmas and New Year period are particularly hard to get holiday time for.
One in five said they felt too much pressure at work to take time off, while one in 10 said they don’t have time to arrange anything.
“Year after year many Brits fail to get themselves organised and run the risk of losing some of their precious annual leave entitlement. Five days of annual leave left opens up a host of possibilities in how to use them up,” said Bob Atkinson from TravelSupermarket.
