UKinbound has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Outbound Tour Operator Association of India (OTOAI) to develop a tourism strategy between the two countries.
The two will look to share and discuss ways of raising awareness of the UK as a tourism destination for Indian holidaymakers and business people, with roadshows to be held around India with VisitBritain.
These will not only focus on London but regional products and services in the UK too.
The partnership will also promote India as a promising market with the two to share research and data on travel and hospitality.
UKinbound’s chairman Rita Beckwith OBE said India is the biggest of the BRIC markets for tourism arrivals into the UK but inbound visitor numbers have dropped in recent years due to competition from other destinations; visa complications and the fall in value of the Indian rupee.
“The intent of the Memorandum is to create a positive business environment for the travel industries of the two countries and to address issues that have restrained growth in the past. It will be a catalyst for action rather than just a piece of paper,” she added.
