Florida cruise port Port Everglades will start renovating its Terminal 4 this spring to accommodate larger ships.
The upgrade will be the port’s sixth terminal update in five years and will see Terminal 4 expanded to allow a dual flow facility in time for the 2014/15 season as well as a slip extension so it can welcome bigger ships by the end of 2016.
Work on the updates will start in March and will be completed this November at a cost of US$24 million.
The terminal renovations will begin in mid-March and be completed by November 2014 in time for the start of the next cruise season.
“This latest expansion effort is a direct result of the cruise industry’s movement towards building larger ships,” said Port Everglades chief executive and port director Steven Cernak. “We are continuously reinvesting in our cruise facilities to keep them fresh, convenient and efficient for the cruise lines and their guests.”
