Thomson and First Choice have continued to boast their sustainability successes as its three-year Holidays Forever strategy comes to an end.
The company has off-set one million tonnes of carbon since launching the project in 2011, with Thomson Airways improving its efficiency by 7.4%.
Its retail outlets have reduced emissions by 24% and the total of brochure pages has cut down one million overall.
The companies have raised more than GBP1 million for charity and half its customers are now staying in greener and fairer hotels.
The companies have now pledged to cut carbon emissions from UK operations by 8%; provide two million more greener holidays and set more goals to make Thomson Airways more carbon efficient.
“Holidays do have an impact on the environment, and we realise that if we want to keep on enjoying our holidays long into the future, then we need to make some changes, and we’ve made a great start over the past three years, achieving above and beyond the original goals we set ourselves,” said David Burling, managing director for Thomson and First Choice. “We made a commitment to do all we can to make a difference through sustainable tourism – starting with our airline and our hotels, but we also can do more to support the local communities in our destinations. The work doesn’t stop here, we remain committed to driving sustainable tourism, engaging with our customers but also working closely with our suppliers to make holidays greener and fairer.”
