The online travel bug has caught up with the African continent. The new kid on the block to join the trend is Magical Skies Ltd, a Kenya-based online travel agency. The company with its aggressive growth strategy has tied up with Illusions Online (IOL) to fully automate and integrate its online offerings.
The company which launched in August 2012 has witnessed several restructuring and structure changes, which finally came to fruition in early 2013. Mohan Chandra, chief executive officer of Magical Skies Ltd was given the mantle of converting the existing company into a truly online brand.
This is where Illusions brings in its expertise. IOL transformed Magical Skies offerings to the industry. From just a safari company set up initially, IOL’s Professional Suite with safari packages gave Magical Skies the possibility of loading flights, hotels, camps, lodges, tents and safaris too.
Chandra adds: “I have worked with Illusions before and understood the capability of the company. The most important aspect of choosing Illusions was essentially the company’s products suited our requirements. Coupled with this, the customer service was excellent. It was a product well-made for us and hence, we started working with Illusions in September 2013.”
The company works on a three-click concept – look to select; book to buy and pay online for your selection. “We certainly are the first to launch this in Africa. Our USP is that we are offering customers, safari packages which range from one to 10 days across Kenya also including Tanzania. The concept is simple – you have everything online instead of a brochure,” added Chandra.
The website, powered completely by Illusions, offering flights, hotels and safari packages was launched in early January this year and the company is currently in the process of advertising and conducting an on-going SEO marketing. The initial implementation and deployment took around two months to complete. With a process and set-up well in place, Magical Skies is all set to carve its niche in the online space.
Future plans include concentrating on the African continent initially gaining momentum in Kenya and then covering the entire Africa. The idea is also to include all the safaris, camps and tents for the whole of Africa. Chandra concludes: “We have seen a very positive response to our website. We are confident that our decision to work with Illusions was the right choice. Our target for the first year of operation having broken it down to flights, hotels and safaris, is estimated at US$7 million in net sales.”
