Travel Counsellors has received the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for its expansion in overseas markets.
The homeworker travel agency was given the award yesterday at its Bolton offices as the Queen celebrated her 88th birthday, while Travel Counsellors marks its own 20th anniversary this year. Its award was presented by the Lord-Lieutenant of Lancashire as HM The Queen’s representative
It was in recognition of the company’s overseas expansion which began in 2005. Its global sales for the financial year ending 31 October 2013 came in at GBP385 million, with 30% of its business now generated outside of the UK.
The company now has more than 1,300 travel agents located in eight countries including the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, South Africa, Australia, Canada, Dubai and Belgium.
“We are absolutely delighted to have received the Queen’s Award for International Trade. This year we are also celebrating our 20th anniversary so it is fantastic to mark this with such a positive and prestigious recognition of how far we have come in this time,” said Travel Counsellors founder and chairman David Speakman. “We have based our success on the foundations of integrity, care, trust and professionalism and a passionate desire to create a community of the very best in travel. We believe and have proved that there is a need for sincere and trusted advisers that place customer care at the centre of their businesses, which is why our model has really been embraced by the international markets we have expanded into.”
Travel Counsellors was also listed in the 2014 Sunday Times Profit Track list this year and is the only UK travel agency to receive the Queen’s Award for Innovation in 2003.
