Salalah Airport witness growth surge

Muscat International Airport witnessed a significant growth in year-to-date aircraft movements and passenger numbers by end of April 2014. The total number of flights increased by 3.5% reaching 26,998 flight movements, compared with 26,079 flights recorded in 2013. The number of passengers by end of April 2014 reached 2,957,770 passengers, compared with 2,737,298 during the same period in 2013, reflecting an annual increase of 8.1%.
Breaking down numbers issued by National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), the total number of international flights in Muscat International Airport by the end of April 2014 reached 23,922 flights, compared with 23,312 flights during the same period in 2013, representing an annual increase of 2.6%. The Air traffic movement report also reveals that total number of flight landings registered by end of April 2014 increased to 11,960 flights compared with 11,656 flights during the same period in 2013. Take-off flights also increased to 11,962 flights during the same period when compared with 11,656 flights in 2013.
The total number of international arrival, departure and transit passengers recorded at Muscat International Airport increased by eight percent, reaching 2,696,835 passengers by end of April 2014, compared with 2,498,123 passengers during 2013, this figure is represented by 1,357,752 arrival passengers, 1,325,998 departure passengers and 13,085 transit passengers.
The total number of domestic flights at Muscat International Airport at the end of April 2014 reached 3,076 flights, representing an increase of 11.2% when compared with 2,767 flights during the same period in 2013, while the total number of domestic passengers increased by 9.1%, reaching 260,935, compared with 239,175 passengers during the same period in 2013.
According to the NCSI figures, domestic and international traffic movements at Salalah Airport witnessed strong growth by the end of April 2014, with international passenger numbers increasing significantly. The total number of domestic and international flights reached 2,662 flights, compared with 1,880 flights during the same period in 2013, recording an annual growth of 41.6%. Meanwhile, total number of domestic and international passengers recorded an increase of 18.9%, reaching 257,517 passengers, compared with 216,534 passengers during the same period in 2013.
The air movement report also reveals that the number of international flights at Salalah Airport totaled 1,086 flights by the end of April 2014, increasing by 163.6% when compared with the same period in 2013 which registered a total of 412 flights. The total number of international passengers increased by 100.1% by the end of April 2014, reaching 82,040 passengers compared with 40,997 passengers recorded in the same period in 2013. Meanwhile, the total number of domestic flights at Salalah Airport increased by 7.4%, reaching 1,576 flights compared with 1,468 flights during the same period in 2013. Domestic passenger numbers however decreased marginally from 175,537 passengers by the end of April 2013 to 175,477 passengers by the end of April 2014.
