Hotels and venues that offer no or poor WiFi are missing out on repeat business, with hoteliers unaware to its importance.
These are the findings from a new study by NETGEAR, which found 76% of hospitality venues think their service and facilities are more important than WiFi, and 43% think customers think poor or limited WiFi is worth it for the experience.
However, its customer findings found 33% of leisure travellers would not return to a hotel that had bad access, and that rose to 67% for business travellers.
Around 29% of hoteliers admitted they think WiFi could impact their business, while 23% said it could lead to bad online reviews and 37% think it can impact repeat business.
“Smaller hospitality and leisure venues must accept that for many people Wi-Fi is now a basic need,” said Jonathan Hallatt, regional director UK, Ireland & South Africa. “Wherever we are, whether it’s for work or pleasure, we immediately look for Wi-Fi access so we can stay in touch with our online world. People expect to be able to decide for themselves whether or not to connect, not to have that decision made for them. Failure to provide a reliable wireless network means customers will spend less money while they are with you, shorten their visit and never return.”
He said WiFi should ‘run like electricity’ with customers not expecting a drop.
