Authorities in a scenic area of China are in dispute with the makers of the new Transformers movie.
‘Transformers 4: Age of Extinction’ was partially filmed in Wulong, a mountainous area close to Chongqing. This caused the area to be closed to tourists for seven days, on the condition that the area’s tourism logo was shown at some point during the movie. But on release, the Wulong logo did not appear in the film.
Huang Daosheng, general manager of Chongqing Wulong Karst Tourism, said the branding was an important part of the company’s strategy to boost the international profile of the area.
“The absence of the logo means all our efforts are in vain,” Huang lamented.
The latest Transformers movie debuted in China on 27 June, and took CNY1.4 billion (US$227 million) in the first 11 days.
