Air Algerie flight disappears with 116 onboard

An Air Algerie flight has gone off the radar while travelling from Burkina Faso to Algeria.
Authorities said contact was lost with flight AH5017 50 minutes after taking off from Ouagadougou.
Early reports are saying there are 110 passengers and six crew onboard.
Spanish carrier SwiftAir said an aircraft operated on behalf of Air Algerie has not reached its expected destination.
The airline’s statement read: “Swiftair informs that an MD83 of this company, operated by Air Algerie, took off from Burkina Faso at 0117 Z for Algiers and expected arrival time 0510 Z but has not reached its destination. Until now there has been no contact with the aircraft.
“Travelling on the plane are 110 passengers and 6 crew members, of which two are pilots and four are cabin crew.
“At this moment, emergency equipment and personnel of the company are working to find out what happened and as we get more details about what happened we will issue new releases.”
