Spain comes up cheapest for petrol prices and car hire costs across the favourite holiday destinations in Europe, according to a new Skyscanner report.
Petrol prices in the country came at GBP1.11 per litre, while car hire for seven days was priced at GBP62.54.
Switzerland was the second cheapest country for petrol at GBP1.15 a litre and France at GBP1.20 per litre, while Norway was most expensive at GBP1.50. The Netherlands and Italy were also among the pricier at GBP1.43 and GBP1.44 respectively.
Norway was also most expensive for car hire at GBP253.35 for a week, while Portugal was with Spain at the other end of the scale at GBP66.59.
Skyscanner’s Hayley Smith said: “It’s not just the initial car hire costs which affect the price of a holiday but also the fuel stops which need to be paid for over the course of the trip. Travellers should do their homework before booking road trips to establish which countries have the best value routes and where they can get the most bang for their buck.”
