Customers searching for hotels via several major online booking sites will now be able to check a property’s internet speed before booking.
Hotel WiFi Test, which measures the speed and quality of hotel internet speeds across the world, has launched a browser extension that allows its information to be displayed on a series of OTAs, including Hotels.com, Expedia, Booking.com and TripAdvisor.
This new piece of information is expected to become a major factor influencing a consumer’s booking decision.
“Studies continue to show that hotel Wi-Fi is a top amenity, but Wi-Fi quality is also among the most frequent traveller complaints,” the company said. “Hotel booking sites tend to avoid displaying negative information about hotels, with the exception of customer reviews. This may be understandable for their relationship with hotels, but it’s not so convenient for travellers.
“HotelWiFiTest.com’s integration with travel and booking sites gives power back to travellers, allowing them to effortlessly select a hotel based on its fast and reliable Wi-Fi. Because consumers can easily see a hotel’s Wi-Fi performance before they book, not after they enter the room, hotels now have a greater incentive to provide quality Wi-Fi to their visitors,” it added.
Previously, this content was only available via the HotelWiFiTest.com website, but it will now appear on the aforementioned hotel booking sites alongside standard information such as customer reviews, price and location.
The browser extension also provides customers with a way of comparing the Wi-Fi speed of a particular hotel with other hotels in any given city.
