Spanish online travel agency Destinia has become the first online company to sell tickets on flights for North Korea’s state-owned national carrier.
The online travel firm will sell Air Koryo tickets from Shenyang in China to the capital of North Korea Pyongyang from EUR365 return, as well as tickets from Vladivostok in Russia to Pyongyang from EUR405.
Tickets will also be available from Beijing to the country from EUR650.
North Korea is difficult to visit due to restrictions on what travellers can see and travel to, such as the requirement for tourists to be accompanied by two guides who must follow a strict itinerary that does not change. Some travel companies have been offering package holidays to the country in recent years, with Destinia the first to offer them from Spain.
The OTA’s CEO Amuda Goueli said: “We work with an incoming tour operators based in China. There are very few travel agencies approved to offer holidays there.”
