Taj Hotels, Resort & Palaces will reopen its Indian safari camps next month, ahead of the cool winter season.
The luxury hotel company operates four luxury safari camps in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, and all of these will open on 16 October 2014 offering a series of tailor-made wildlife activities in the nearby national parks and forests.
Taj Safaris was set up as a joint venture with luxury adventure travel company, andBeyond. The first lodge, Mahua Kothi, opened at the Bandhavgarh National Park in November 2006. And since then three more parks have been added: Baghvan, in the Pench National Park, Pashan Garh, at the Panna National Park, and Banjaar Tola, at the Kanha National Park.
These four national parks form Madhya Pradesh’s ‘tiger circuit’, and guests at the safari camps will have the opportunity to take drives out into the jungle to catch a glimpse of the native wildlife, including tigers, wild elephants, leopards, hyenas, porcupines, jackals and civet cats.
Accompanied by trained naturalists, there is also the opportunity to undertake night walks, twilight expeditions with infrared cameras, and elephant treks, while back at the camp guests can enjoy spa treatments, yoga sessions and organic meals. Guests can also participate in volunteer projects at local communities, visiting local schools and villages.
Meanwhile, another Indian adventure activity has opened for the winter. The white water rafting season on the Ganges River has opened again in Uttarakhand. The upper valley tributaries of the Ganges, the Alaknanda and the Bhagirathi, meet at Devprayag to form a 35km stretch of river which is ideal for white water rafting.
