Brighton’s famed Royal Pavilion Estate is to go through a major revitalisation following a GBP5.8 million investment from Arts Council England.
A refurbishment of the Grad I Brighton Dome Corn Exchange is in the pipeline alongside renovations to the Grade II Studio Theatre.
Plans include a new café, viewing gallery, more seating, a dedicated creation space, more facilities and a service tunnel linking the venues.
Andrew Comben, chief executive of Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival, which bid for the funding with Brighton & Hove City Council said: “We are delighted and proud to be awarded this funding from Arts Council England.
“As the first phase of the broader vision for the Royal Pavilion Estate, the development plans for Brighton Dome Corn Exchange and the Studio Theatre form a major part of our goal to be one of Europe’s leading arts festivals and a year-round international destination for artists and audiences.
“But, this is just the start. The development plans still rely on an overall fundraising strategy that includes a wide range of Trusts & Foundations, individual donations and phased Heritage Lottery funding applications. We will continue to work with all our partners and key stakeholders as we jointly progress our ambition to realise the Royal Pavilion Estate as a world class heritage site.”
