Khiri Travel was active on three fronts to mark World Responsible Tourism Day on 5 November.
Staff at all seven Khiri offices donated time and money to the company’s non-profit arm, Khiri Reach. Staff in Asia planted tree saplings in the gardens at Khiri’s offices or at other locations in tandem with local communities.
And at WTM London, Khiri’s CEO Willem Niemeijer addressed the Responsible Tourism Debate on Child Protection. Niemeijer told delegates that the tourism industry “could do a good deal more to take responsibility for child protection”.
Also at WTM London, Khiri’s regional director for Indochina, Jack Bartholomew, attended a session aimed at highlighting what responsible and sustainable elements operators can incorporate into their tour offerings.
“World Responsible Tourism Day highlights the practical steps we can take to make tourism sustainable and ethical,” said Niemeijer. “Responsible operators realise that people, planet and profit need to be closely aligned for long-term sustainable success.”
