In a statement, AirAsia said the service, which started less than two months ago on July 15, , has recorded extremely high loads of over 90%, prompting the airline to add another new flight.
“In both of the months, July and August, AirAsia registered 98% and 95% loads respectively,” it said.
AirAsia’s regional head of commercial, Kathleen Tan, said to cope with the increase in demand, the company decided to add the second frequency in time for China’s Golden Week holidays.
“We are delighted with this route’s performance which is a strong indication that many are visiting Shenzhen to connect to Pearl Delta region,” she said.
Meanwhile, AirAsia said it would enhance its connectivity in the region by launching direct flights from Kota Kinabalu’s low-cost terminal to Shenzhen.
“With an extensive route network covering most of the cities in the Association of South-East Asian Nations, AirAsia is now fast expanding its network into China, and Shenzen is an ideal choice as the airline’s gateway to the mainland.” it said.
Currently, AirAsia’s sister airline, Thai AirAsia, is also serving a daily flight from Bangkok to Shenzhen.
“With the added second frequency and a new flight from Kota Kinabalu, AirAsia will be serving four flights daily into Shenzhen,” it said.
