The last year has rounded up well for Dubai Duty Free (DDF).
The authority reported a 7.4% increase in sales to touch AED6.99 billion in 2014, as reported by Gulf News.
“The sales for 2014 are due to a mixture of things. We have finalised the upgrade/expansion of Terminal 2 retail area and that is doing very well. In addition, the Concourse A is now complete with opening in recent months of the Chanel shop at DDF , along with Hermes [and] Gucci,” said Colm McLoughlin, executive vice-chairman of DDF.
The sales growth was seen at a growth of seven percent year-on-year in December to touch AED749.13 m, driven by a 25% discount on an array of merchandise. The three-day promotion period brought in AED188.86 m in sales.
The bestselling categories last year were perfume, accounting for AED1.147 bn in sales and contributing 17% of DDF’s total sales, followed by beverages and gold, cigarettes and tobacco, and confectionary. Sales of cosmetics and watches grew too, rising by 19% to AED531 m and by nine per cent to AED499 million respectively. The retailer expects to record AED7.7 bn in sales in 2016 and AED10 bn in 2018.
