London’s The Goring hotel will close for the first time in its 104-year history today as renovation works are completed.
The Belgravia hotel is planning to ‘channel Downton Abbey luxury’ with plans to introduce ‘handsome footmen’ and an in-room evening cocktail service when it reopens in February.
Four major interior designers have been behind the changes, the full results of which will be seen when the hotel reopens on 21 February in time for its 105th celebrations.
Nina Campbell oversaw the suites, Tim Gosling the bar, lounge, terrace and suites, David Linley designed The Dining Room and Russell Sage has looked after rooms, suites, the Royal Suite and Front Hall.
The Front Hall lobby is the final area of the Belgravia hotel to be updated and will include wallpaper designed by Fromental with the brief of ‘London Zoo’s animals in the park’.
Later in the year an éclair trolley will also be introduced to its afternoon tea service.
“Even through two World Wars, The Goring has never closed. However, we really wanted to give Russell Sage and all the craftsmen space to complete this total renovation. We will then emerge, even better – and ready for the next 100 years to come. And our new Goring footmen will really add another dimension to our service,” said Jeremy Goring.
