Fiji’s South Sea Cruises will launch a new series of ‘Ultimate Encounters’ on 1 April, based on snorkelling with sharks.
The one-, two- or three-day experiences will transfer travellers from Port Denarau to Kuata Island to snorkel with black tip and white tip reef sharks, which can grow up to two metres long.
South Sea Cruises’ sales manager, Lailanie Burnes, said the new product offering would appeal to adventure seekers.
“Humans have a fascination with sharks and there is no doubt that despite our fear of them that is generally equalled by our curiosity about them,” Ms Burnes said.
“Our snorkelling location is a shallow area of reef making snorkelling and visibility easy and clear; and makes the experience accessible to a wide range of people – whether serious thrill seekers, families or just curious nature lovers,” she added.
The company said guests will snorkel with experienced guides who are familiar with shark behaviour, and can expect to see up to six sharks in the hour they spend in the water. If no sharks are sighted, South Sea Cruises will offer a complimentary cruise within three days so guests can try again.
