Finnair will introduce special hand-luggage only fares on flights from the UK and Ireland from 5 May.
The Light ticket is the lowest-fare option in Finnair’s ticket type and will also be available throughout Finnair’s network in Europe and the Middle East, with the exception of Russia. All other ticket types continue to include checked baggage.
“Since we introduced Light fares on domestic, Scandinavian and Baltic routes last March, we have seen a positive reaction from customers who tend to travel without checked baggage, particularly from travellers on short trips,” said Tomi Hänninen, VP, Revenue Management and Pricing. “We are hopeful that by extending this offering in more markets, Finnair’s range of ticket types offers a suitable option for every type of traveller.”
Finnair Plus Platinum, Gold and Silver members, as well as members of equivalent oneworld loyalty programmes in the Emerald or Sapphire tiers, are entitled to one extra piece of checked baggage in addition to that which is provided by their ticket type. Thus, these frequent flyers can check one bag free of charge while flying with Light tickets.
If needed, checked baggage may be purchased in advance or at the airport. The prepayment baggage charge is considerably lower than the airport baggage charge.
Light tickets are unavailable on long-haul intercontinental flights.
Finnair flies direct to Helsinki from London Heathrow, Manchester and Dublin.
