Saudia is looking to take legal action against aircraft-leasing company Hi Fly after they flew an empty Saudia-branded jet to an airport in Israel.
Social media channels saw a photo of the event widely circulated and the state-owned carrier initially denied the event happened.
The airline said the jet was actually owned by Hi Fly, which leases jets and crew to Saudia.
They said in a statement that Hi Fly “committed a blatant violation of the contract”.
Hi Fly was reportedly obliged to obtain written permission over where it landed aircraft or conducted maintenance.
“Saudia has notified Hi Fly of nullifying the contract signed between the two parties and now it is in the process of taking the legal action against the contract violator,” the statement read.
Israel is not recognised by Saudi Arabia and is therefore not a country allowed for Saudia planes to be seen.
