The Sultanate of Oman’s key performance indicators of hotels recorded an increase last year compared to 2013.
The revenues of hotels in 2014 stood at OMR216.52mn compared to OMR198.83mn in 2013.
According to data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), revenue from room rent was OMR126.31mn, revenue from food was OMR50.57mn, OMR24.77mn from beverages and OMR4.8mn from others.
Number of hotels increased from 266 in 2013 to 287 in 2014. The number of employees working in this sector also increased to 10,763 in 2014 including 3,381 Omanis and 7,382 expatriates. In 2013 the figure was 9,893 – 3,195 Omanis and 6,698 expatriates.
Muscat saw the highest key performance hotel indicators last year. The number of guests in hotels in Muscat reached 1,257,000. Revenues of these hotels stood at OMR147.19mn. Tourist nights reached 1,712,000 and the occupancy rate reached 61 per cent.
Meanwhile, number of visitors to Dhofar stood at 143,000 generating revenue of OMR13.12mn. South Sharqiyah saw 97,000 guests generating OMR3.56mn last year.
