The Indian travel community attended this year’s Australian Tourism Exchange (ATE) in record numbers.
A total of 25 companies, including Thomas Cook India, SOTC-Kuoni, MakeMyTrip, Yatra, Abercrombie & Kent, Chariot World Tours and Fountainhead, took part in the annual travel trade event, which was held in Melbourne from 21-25 June 2015.
Organised by Tourism Australia and Tourism Victoria, ATE brings together travel wholesalers and agents from 30 countries to meet with approximately 500 Australian tourism companies.
“The relationships developed at ATE, between Australian tourism product suppliers and the travel trade who sell Australian holidays in India, are essential for creating long term tourism growth,” said Nishant Kashikar, Tourism Australia’s country manager for India & the Gulf region.
“Arrivals into Australia from India have seen a significant rise and initiatives like the ATE provide a wonderful platform for the trade to understand the destination better which in turn helps them to sell it to their consumers.”
Indian arrivals to Australia are on the rise. In 2014, a total of 197,000 Indians travelled Down Under, up 17% year-on-year. And 2015’s figures are expected to be boosted by the ICC Cricket World Cup, which was held in Australia earlier this year.
