China Southern Airlines is planning to launch the first direct trans-Pacific flights from Shenyang, the capital of northeast China’s Liaoning province.
The airline has applied to the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) for permission to launch a new service from Shenyang to San Francisco. If approved, the new route could launch in October 2015 and will operate three times a week.
Shenyang, which has a population of more than six million people, is the largest city in China’s northeast region. It will become the third city linked with San Francisco by China Southern, following Guangzhou and Wuhan.
China Southern Airlines currently operates 35 weekly flights to four North American cities: Los Angeles, Vancouver, San Francisco and New York.
