Perth Airport has selected a new cloud-based solution from Amadeus that will enable staff to check-in and process passengers from anywhere in the airport.
ACUS uses “application virtualisation” to allow airport managers to deploy passenger processing systems across the airport, via a desktop computer, laptop or mobile device. As a result, airport staff will be able to check-in passengers and issue boarding passes from any location. Similarly, ground handlers will also be able to process passengers from any gate.
Perth becomes the first airport in Australia to deploy the ACUS system, and the move forms part of a AU$1 billion (US$708 million) investment in the airport’s infrastructure.
“The advanced systems we are delivering with Amadeus will provide a higher level of customer experience. During our selection process, it became clear that Amadeus was the only common use provider to truly deliver on the cloud-based model, bringing clear financial and structural benefits,” said Rowan Chalmers, Perth Airport’s executive general manager of operations & customer experience.
“Moving to the Amadeus’ cloud-based common use system means we will be able to cut passenger processing costs by more than 25 per cent for our airline partners. That was a key consideration when selecting this new and innovative system,” he added.
John Jarrell, head of airport IT at Amadeus, commented; “Airports across the world are under pressure to think differently in order to handle increasingly significant numbers of passengers, and modern technology has a huge role to play. The deployment of ACUS is only the beginning of our partnership with Perth Airport, and we look forward to continuing to work closely together.”
ACUS was first launched in February 2015 at Innsbruck Airport in Austria, and Amadeus has since signed a major deal to roll out the system at several airports in Norway.
