Wyndham Hotel Group has become the first global hospitality company to reach 1,000 hotels in Greater China.
The US-based hotelier, which operates six brands in China, including Wyndham, Ramada and Super 8, now has a portfolio that covers more than 260 Chinese cities and 30 provinces.
The 1,000-hotel milestone was marked with an event at Mount Tai in Shandong province. Wyndham brought more than 1,500 partners, guests and associates to the peak for a run and climb to the top of Mount Tai — an effort it said was “symbolic of the company’s soaring development” in China.
The evening hike saw the Wyndham team reach the summit of Mount Tai in the early hours of the morning, in time for sunrise.

“China continues to be on the rise and with a booming middle class that is travelling more and more, we believe there’s no better company as uniquely positioned as we are today to meet their evolving needs.”
Last week alone, the company announced the opening of two new hotels under its Wyndham Hotels & Resorts brand. The 227-room Wyndham Urumqi North marks the first internationally-branded hotel in Wujiaqu, Xinjiang, while the 389-room Wyndham Qingdao becomes the second Wyndham-branded hotel in the Shandong port city.
Wyndham first entered the Greater China region in 1998 with the introduction of its Howard Johnson hotel brand. It then introduced its Days Inn and Super 8 brands to the country in 2004 and has since rolled out Wyndham Grand, Wyndham and Ramada properties.
And the company will bring more brands to China later this year, with the launches of its Tryp by Wyndham, Wyndham Garden and Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham concepts.
