China will encourage domestic companies to build new tourism infrastructure and equipment, including cruise ships and cable cars, to satisfy demand from the country’s fast-growing domestic tourism sector.
Xinhua reports that a new joint governmental guideline, released on Thursday by six state departments, calls for the construction of “cruise liners, yachts, cable cars, low-altitude aircraft and equipment for theme parks”.
In terms of the cruise sector, the government wants Chinese companies to be able to “design, build and repair medium- to large-sized cruise liners in five to 10 years”, as well as small and medium-sized yachts.
The cable car project is aimed at boosting the country’s ski industry, especially ahead of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing.
To achieve these plans, the Chinese government will set up a fund to support the development of tourism equipment, and will encourage companies to issue corporate bonds or shares.
