Two more cruise brands will make their debuts in China in 2017.
Carnival Corporation has revealed that its Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises brands will both start homeporting in China. They will join Costa Cruises and Princess Cruises in the Chinese market, making Carnival the first cruise company to operate four brands in China.
“We are excited to introduce our Carnival Cruise Line and AIDA Cruises brands to our fleet in China, giving us… a unique opportunity to provide a diverse line-up of brands and cruise offerings to Chinese guests who are looking for a great vacation experience,” said Carnival’s CEO, Arnold Donald, who announced the news in Shanghai.
“As we execute our multi-brand growth strategy in China, we are emphasising choice and variety in our offerings to match the different tastes and preferences of Chinese travellers.
“This is an exciting time in China for the cruise industry, and as the world’s largest cruise company and the first global cruise operator in China, we are more committed than ever to helping China become one of the world’s most popular regions for cruise vacations,” he added.
One vessel for each of the two new brands will homeport in China in 2017, details of which will be announced at a later date.
These will join the six China-based ships Carnival plans to operate in China in 2016, under its Costa and Princess brands, which will mark a 58% increase in capacity compared to 2015. Three of these ships will be based in China year-round, with the other three operating seasonally.
Carnival is also exploring a series of potential joint ventures in China, including the possibility of launching a brand new domestic Chinese cruise brand, building new ships in China, and developing ports and cruise infrastructure development.
